uMngeni RegenCAN Chapter
#Volunteer4SA -- Community Action News
The goal of the uMngeni RegenCAN Chapter is to help a total of 1,000 individuals — at a maximum of 1 persons per household — to earn a supplemental wage for work done on the 10 Ecosystem Restoration Interventions (ERIx10) and other RegenCAN projects.
ERIx10 Sponsorships
Each ERIx10 sponsorship package costs at R900 per month. A maximum one (1) sponsorship package are assigned to each uMngeni RegenCAN FD+ Compact beneficiary. Therefore, each beneficiary is allocated support for a maximum of R900 when they work on ERIx10 Projects.
We hope to be able to help up to 1,000 households from the funds raised in this way. All the funds raised from sponsors by the uMngeni RegenCAN Chapter are allocated and distributed to the 3 initiatives listed further on.
Local ‘1% for SA’ Business Sponsors
The funds raised from local 1% for SA business sponsors are mostly directed to the uMngeni RegenCAN FD+ Compact, the uMngeni Market Garden System, and the uMngeni micro BLITZ Time Exchange. The funds from ‘1% for SA’ Sponsors are helping NPOs and projects get things done by covering a significant portion of the cost of the products & services used in achieving their goals. Labour used in projects includes volunteers and RegenCAN FD+ Compact workers.

Market Garden Development
The primary goal of the uMngeni Market Garden Development Initiative is to address both food security and job creation by initiating the establishment of a comprehensive ecosystem of sustainable small and micro scale farmers. The establishment of small scale farmers that are Certified RO*Food MGS Grown is the desired outcome.

micro BLITZ Time Exchange
The uMngeni micro BLITZ Time Exchange is a community based time banking initiative. Members exchange time and skills (work) with each other and earn ‘time credits’ in return. Due to the distributed nature of the network, these time credits — mBZ tokens — can in turn be exchanged for other member services.

Funds & 'in-kind' Donations
Most ‘in-kind’ donations are currently being processed through local NPOs.
‘in-kind’ Donations
When supporters donate in-kind they specify that the donation is for RegenCAN. This is really only for kudos & administrative purposes. Donation items include Men’s, Ladies and Children’s Clothing, Shoes, Accessories, Bric a Brac, Household items and Kitchenware, Linen and Curtains, Toys, Games, Books, Furniture.
FD+ token Cycle
Workers use the FD+ tokens that they have earned from working on ERIx10 projects to purchase these any other donated items. All the FD+ transactions use the uMngeni RegenCAN Exchange to transact. The uMngeni RegenCAN Exchange is based upon secure banking software. The uMngeni RegenCAN Chapter (a local CBO) manages its own finances, volunteers, ERIx10 projects and the uMngeni RegenCAN Exchange (soon to be located at umngeni.regencan.co.za).
Monetary Donations
Monetary donations are paid into the uMngeni RegenCAN Chapters bank account. Local NPOs ‘exchange’ the FD+ tokens that they have received in payment from RegenCAN workers for the ZAR that ERIx19 Sponsors have donated. For NPOs the transactions are thus similar to being paid in cash.
